Combustion Training Day
As part of the side activities of the 5th Symposium on Ammonia Energy (SoAE 2026), we are pleased to offer a Combustion Training Day, designed exclusively for registered SoAE participants.
This one-day training will take place on September 26th, 2026, at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, located in Chile’s Valparaíso Region. It provides a unique opportunity for students, professionals, and early-career researchers to deepen their knowledge of ammonia combustion through a combination of lectures, practical insights, and laboratory experience.
Fees
Regular student fee: USD 130
General Professional Fee: USD 230
The fee includes:
- Full-day training
- Round-trip transportation (Santiago–Valparaíso–Santiago)
- Coffee breaks and lunch
Audience
The program aims to strengthen both fundamental understanding and applied skills in this rapidly evolving field. It is tailored for final-year undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral students, as well as for professionals with a background in sciences who are interested in the subject.
Topics
- Fundamentals of ammonia combustion
- Laboratory practices and infrastructure use (including lab tour)
- Numerical modelling and simulations
- Internal combustion engines
- Medium- and large-scale combustion systems for heat and power generation
The training will be delivered by internationally recognized experts from leading institutions, ensuring a high-level academic and practical experience.
Program Highlights:
- Ammonia Combustion Fundamentals – Prof. Yuyang Li (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China)
- Laboratory Session and Tour – Prof. Mario Toledo (Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile)
- Combustion Modelling – Prof. Wolfram Jahn (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile)
- Ammonia in Internal Combustion Engines – Prof. Alasdair Cairns (University of Nottingham, UK)
- Ammonia in Large-Scale Systems – Prof. Agustin Valera-Medina (Cardiff University, UK)
We look forward to welcoming selected participants to Valparaíso for a day of learning, collaboration, and engagement with leading experts in ammonia combustion.
Grants
A limited number of individual grants are available to support student participation. We are pleased to invite students from all LATAM universities to apply for these grants generously supported by The Combustion Institute.
Awards will be considered on an individual basis by the Organizing Scientific Committee, whose decision will be final.
